Planning your day in the weaning section
Make a plan for moving around on the farm, in the sections and the pens.
Start with the smallest and weakest piglets and move to the heavier and more robust ones. This way, you avoid dragging infections from the eldest to the youngest piglets.
Avoid moving piglets between sections – and use different tools and boots in each section. Internal contamination protection helps to increase the health of your piglets.
Use plastic shoes on top of your own when entering a pen with diarrhoea.
> Check the piglets at least three times a day for the first two days after weaning
Severe cases of diarrhoea can develop in a day. If the piglets are only supervised in the mornings, the time gap is too big if treatment is necessary.
Be incredibly attentive on days with a greater risk of diarrhoea. If the piglets need treatment, then follow the recommendations from your veterinarian.
